That is to say, I'd rather play PUBG on my phone, than with a mouse and keyboard (blasphemy, I know). Touch screen controls honestly feel more natural and balanced than a controller (which is always available, making the controls argument a moot point for development anyway) and the overall pubg experience feels better on my LG v30+ than it does on my Lenovo y520. Tencent, on the other hand, took pubg and made it work near flawlessly on Android. For no reason than developers chose not to take the android platform seriously. While the attempt looked and felt great for a tap screen game, it fell far short of what any other Mario game has ever been, before or since. It is essentially the same level of game design as the Nintendo DS game New Super Mario Bros, but instead of having a d pad and 8 buttons to play the game with, you're reduced to watching Mario run on his own and utilizing environment design to replicate the platforming experience through well time screen taps. Mario Run is the perfect example of this. Most of the time a developer will opt for over-simplified controls with much smaller level design and more narrow focus on game play. What you don't tend to see, are quality new titles developed with long term play value in mind, that adapt existing game play for touch screen devices. You have other classics brought directly to Android, a bards tale, titan quest, baulders gate, ect.
Almost every final Fantasy title has an android port. Some of it attempts to penetrate familiar design space, Diablo clones among many other games that attempt to provide a similar play experience to popular ip. Most of it is tap screen kind of simple stuff, puzzlers and runners. The android gaming market: first thing a person notices (especially a gamer) when browsing the Android market for games, is there are a lot of odd sounding titles with incredibly similar game play. I have thoughts about this whole situation.
